Stick It To The Man

Telecommunication giants Verizon and BellSouth recently issued their own independent public statements denying that they have been involved in any way with the turning over of phone records to the NSA. A spokesman for Verizon went on to say it would provide customer information to a government agency "only where authorized by law for appropriately-defined and focused purposes." BellSouth spokesman Jeff Battcher said, "We have provided no customer information whatsoever to the NSA." ... in other words both companies are telling the NSA; we know you're going to listen anyway, but we respect our customers enough to not make it that easy for you. GOOD FOR YOU VERIZON AND BELLSOUTH!!! I plan on switching my phone carrier in a show of support.

I'm just wondering if you plan on refusing to read/listen/watch the media/news outlets that falsely reported that Bellsouth was one of the carriers that provided the information? Facts like that are rather important.

The reporting of inaccurate facts by the media (in this case falsely accusing BellSouth) is inadvertent human error solely because, in my mind, reporters are trying to get the scoop before everyone else ... it sells papers and captures viewers. Whereas violating the privacy of citizens is not simply a mistaken story, but rather a direct and blatant effort to spy on our own people without probable cause.

I have no plans to boycott any particular media outlet ... it's media screw ups like this that give me something to write about on dry days.

Thanks for reading.
